I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing......Only I will remain.

“The Thing Is to love life, to love it even when you have no stomach for it and everything you’ve held dear crumbles like burnt paper in your hands, your throat filled with the silt of it. When grief sits with you, its tropical heat thickening the air, heavy as water more fit for gills than lungs; when grief weights you like your own flesh only more of it, an obesity of grief, you think, How can a body withstand this? Then you hold life like a face between your palms, a plain face, no charming smile, no violet eyes, and you say, yes, I will take you I will love you, again.” – Ellen Bass
"

I was driving home today and I was stuck at a stop light. I glanced out of my window and saw a homeless man sitting there in the rain. “Poor man” I thought and that was all. I turned my attention to the new song that was playing until something caught my eye again. A car had pulled up to the homeless man and a woman got out. She walked up to him and handed him an umbrella, smiled, and got back into her car. No words were exchanged and she did not expect anything in return.

I kept driving and the thoughts turned in my head. How desperately I wanted to be that woman. Not in the physical sense but in the moral way. I wanted her heart, compassion, and humility. It was not beneath her to help a fellow human out, instead it was her obligation.

I need an obligation like that.
